It can only happen here!

SeussicalLast Friday night I was in the theater watching our Middle School performance of Seussical and I began to think, wow, this caliber of performance could only happen here at the Academy. The energy, the enthusiasm and the talent was astounding.  100% of our Grade 7 and 8 students were involved in the performance, whether onstage or creating sets and props. Upper School students supported this endeavor in the orchestra pit playing alongside of professional musicians as well as working backstage. This was truly a community effort with support from the Athletic Department and Middle School faculty. This is our community at our best. Moreover, it showcased talents that are unsurpassed for this level of activity. In my years at independent schools I have never been able to equate a Middle School musical with a Broadway production. I was thrilled to see that every student on the stage was treated as an individual talent and each had their own special moment. This is only one area in the school where I say to myself it can only happen here…

SeussicalWhere else could the honor student on the Lacrosse Team be both the lead in the Upper School musical and the Concert Master of the prestigious National Orchestra of America? Where else can the entire Grade 9 class travel for a week to London, England as part of their academic exploration at no extra cost?  These are just a couple of examples of the amazing things that take place here at SIA on a regular basis.

I look forward to sharing with you on future blogs all things that take place here, both big and small, and make me think:  It can only happen here!
